WALKING ON AIR WITH HEY DUDE SHOES

Wow, wow and wow again!  I can’t believe at long last I have managed to buy myself a pair of shoes that make my feet feel wonderful.  While I would love my feet to feel like they did when I was a baby – that isn’t going to happen but I believe I am getting close after discovering Hey Dude shoes.

What I discovered

Just a little background.  Discovering I have several hammer toes has been a shock to me!  What’s a hammer toe I hear you ask?  Well it is a toe that is bent because of a weakened muscle.  The weakened muscle then makes the tendons shorter which causes several of my toes to stick up at the knuckle part of the toe!

Consequences of hammer toes

My hammer toes have meant shoes continually rub at the point where the knuckle juts above the rest of the toes.  I have never found a shoe that doesn’t rub – until now of course!  Repeated friction resulting in thickened skin is another consequence.

How I’m trying to fix my hammer toes

The best way to fix hammer toes – apart from surgery is to wear properly fitting shoes.  That is easier said than done.  Have you seen women’s shoes recently?  My feet would not thank you for trying to squeeze them in to pointy shoes.  Just look at your bare feet when they are flat on the ground.  There is no way they are meant to be squashed in to fashion shoes.

Walking on air with Hey Dude

Let me introduce you to Hey Dude!  I came across their website on my search for comfortable and stylish shoes.  This is what Hey Dude say about their shoes:

“Just a bambino in the footwear world, Hey Dude was spawned in to existence in the noughties with an ethos to provide comfortable, lightweight and durable footwear for all by redefining the fundamentals of footwear construction.  The principles haven’t changed from the original concept of using carefully chosen materials to make quality footwear – combining a metal-free, patented EVA sole with durable material uppers has allowed Hey Dude to continue to innovate and stimulate the footwear industry. Dude’s addictive comfort will keep you coming back for more – just try it for yourself.”

It is the metal-free, patented EVA sole and ability to craft shoes that are comfortable to wear that has me hooked on Hey Dude Shoes.  It really is like walking on air.  But don’t take my word for it, have a wee look at their website here to see for yourself.

Happy Feet 😉

How to treat hard skin the easy, cheapest and most effective way

As summer fades away and I start to wrap up for winter, I often clothe myself in many layers and often wonder when summer comes around again why my skin is so dry and particularly why the skin on the bottom of my feet is so dry and hard- is it just women?

I have to admit to being plagued by hard skin, so much so that I have opted to wear flats wherever I go and will probably be like that forever now!  As you can imagine I have tried many, many instruments and lotions and potions to get rid of the hard skin.  In fact I even came across a number of vintage ways of doing this – these old wives tales were often scary and quite frankly most (if not all) didn’t work.  There are some ideas from vintage times that need to stay in the past!

What I have learnt is that just like your face, your feet (and elbows) require moisture and if they are cozied up in those lovely cozy slipper socks they often become dry.  Not forgetting the hard skin that comes from wearing heels and walking.  Oh so that’s why my hubby doesn’t get hard skin!

I wanted to share with you my tips on getting rid of that hard and dry skin in the easiest, cheapest and most effective way that I know.

First, you need to establish if you have hard skin or dry skin.  Hard skin is often found on high pressure areas of the foot such as the heel, the ball of your foot or the side of your big toe!  It is often thicker than the rest of the skin and often has a discolouration of yellow – this is often referred to as callous.

So how do I treat my hard skin?

Firstly you need to buy this fantastic product here which is a callous remover and costs only £2.10!  Once received:

Step 1: Soak your feet – the idea here is to get the skin as soft as possible so keep them in the water as long as you can and only take out one at a time to treat.  So fill a basin with hot water and add a few drops of shower gel or bath cream, soak for at least 10 minutes, dry and then you are ready to begin.

Step 2:   Take your callous remover and start to use it. It is a tool which removes layers of dead skin.  Word of warning here, this implement is sharp so please follow instructions carefully – what you want to do is LIGHTLY shave the hard skin a little at a time – not all at once.

I would suggest you place the shaver at the top edge of where you want to start – apply light pressure then slowly draw the callus shaver across the surface of your hard skin.  You will see a thin strip of dead skin on the shaver, keep doing this very lightly.  You may find it helpful to stop after the first few goes over the skin and then do the same process the next day until all the hard skin is removed – that way you will take your time and won’t cut yourself!

Please remember that the shaver is designed to only remove a small amount of dead skin at any one time so be gentle and don’t apply too much pressure – sorry I can’t say this enough!

Step 3:  After you have removed the hard skin you can smooth the area with a foot file and then apply moisturiser.  I have to say that I use whatever cream is at hand – even if it’s body lotion – as long as it aids in getting moisture in to your skin.

You should now have happy feet!

Let me know what you have used to get rid of hard skin in the past.  I have to say this is the best £2.10 I have ever spent!
