THE EFFORTLESS WAY TO VACATION PACKING LIKE A PRO

Truth is that my family and I have travelled for four whole weeks throughout Europe with a 25L rucksack each.  This amounted to 2 pairs of trousers, 2 tops, 2 pairs of underwear and 2 pairs of socks.  Of course, there were toiletries, washing powder and a washing line!  So I’d like to think I’ve some packing skills!

With this experience, I’m delighted to share with you my all-time favourite tips for holiday packing!

Create a capsule wardrobe

It’s a great idea to colour code your outfits.  When I travel I often select items from the same colour palette.  For example, our trip around Europe was in the summer so my shades were pastel colours.  These are often my go to colours during summer season and the light fabrics are great for packing too!

Go with separates

While dresses are great, I find having separates much more versatile.  If you ensure your garments are colour co-ordinated then separates will go a long way as you can mix and match to your heart’s content!  My favourites separates are trousers, tops, cardigans, and cropped trousers – I never wear shorts!

Accessories are your friend

I always travel with a bundle of accessories such as statement jewellery but also light scarves and shawls.  Again, make sure you colour co-ordinate them and they will go a long way to adding interest to your wardrobe.  Don’t forget you can always buy some more accessories at your destination.  I always try and purchase at least one small item that I wouldn’t normally find at home.

Plan and plan some more

Before you go, plan your outfits by putting out all your clothes you are going to take.  Try them on in front of a full-length mirror to see how they look at feel.  It’s easier to tweak your outfits at home rather than being concerned when you start your holidays.  Planning your outfits this way will also ensure you don’t leave anything important behind!

Take tried and tested clothes and shoes

This may seem obvious but there is little point in taking items you haven’t tried on!  That goes for shoes too.  Try them out at home and see how they fit and if you are able to walk in them.  You may find it helpful to wash any new clothes to take the stiffness out of them before you go.

These are just some of my own tried and tested tips.  Do you have any other great travel packing tips you would like to share? I’d love to hear from you.

Happy travels.
