I don’t consider myself to be a ‘big’ blogger. I’m not even a full time blogger. However, I follow some wonderful and inspiring successful bloggers who make a living from blogging. They also get hundreds of thousands of page views, have a great Domain Authority and quite frankly are rocking it!
Have you ever wondered what their most successful habits are? How they manage to be so successful? Well in this post I share with you some of their most successful habits. It’s what they do now that not only makes them so successful but it keeps them on top of their game. This is a great post if you are starting your blogging journey or if you need a little help getting to the next level.
Some of the most successful bloggers in the UK have willingly shared their top habits for this blog post. These wonderful bloggers started out as you and me are starting out. They now use tools, accessories and habits that help them on their blogging journey. These habits have been crafted over many years to maximise how they blog, how they keep motivated and how they manage to make a successful living from their blogs.
I’ll let you in on a little secret. My reason for writing this post was two fold. I wanted to help you become a successful blogger. My second reason was that I want to become a successful blogger too! So let’s start this journey together and see where it takes us.
Here are the top 10 habits of successful bloggers. Let’s do this…
1. SUCCESSFUL BLOGGERS USE SCHEDULING TOOLS
Time is precious. Even more so if you are a blogger. Writing, reviewing, scheduling, interacting on social media, contacting clients, there is a lot to do as a blogger. I used to wonder how on earth full time bloggers did it all and did they ever sleep!
Well the first tip I’m going to share with you is scheduling. Many successful bloggers use scheduling tools for the social media. Fiona from Savvy In Somerset and Helen from The Complaining Cow raves about how much time she saves using scheduling tools.
A very useful scheduling tool is MissingLettr. Missinglettr is a relatively new scheduling tool to the market. It sets up a drip fed social media campaign for your blog posts. So instead of just sharing your latest blog post, Missinglettr will create a year long campaign, noting key messages to share with your audience. Another great time saving tool for bloggers.
2. SUCCESSFUL BLOGGERS BUILD THEIR EMAIL DATABASE & CONNECT REGULARLY
Emma Drew is a very successful money blogger. One of her top habits is collecting email addresses for everything. She believes this is key to her business as a full time blogger.
Your email list is a fantastic way of sharing your latest blog post but also sharing any products that you have developed. So if you want to start making money from your blog then building up your email database is one of the successful habits you need to start.
If you haven’t started your mailing list yet, I suggest you give Mailer Lite a go. Mailer Lite is a very simple and straightforward programme for collecting emails and sending emails. It is also free up to 1000 subscribers with no limit on the amount of emails you can send! This is a great way to get started without having to pay.
Once you have your list in place, make sure to send out emails to your subscribers regularly. I send mine out once a week, usually on Fridays. This way, people know when they’re coming, and (hopefully!) look forward to receiving them.
3. SUCCESSFUL BLOGGERS OPTIMISE THEIR SEO WITH PLUGINS
Lynn from Mrs Mummy Penny uses a plugin called Yoast to help with her SEO. If you’re not familiar with SEO it stands for Search Engine Optimisation. It’s how you get your posts found and rank higher in search results. It’s important to input a keyword for your posts. This is a phrase that will get your posts to show up higher in search rankings. For example “Tips for Getting Your Posts Found” or “Best Social Media Tools”.
It’s very easy to download the Yoast plugin. On your WordPress dashboard, head to plugins down the left hand side, search for Yoast and then download. It’s free too!
4. SUCCESSFUL BLOGGERS USE PINTEREST
Pinterest is different to social media. Pinterest is a visual based platform but more importantly Pinterest is a search engine! Here you can display all the images you use on your blog and other things that you like. Pinterest is a great way to drive traffic to your blog. I recommend you design one pinnable image for each blog post. Add a Pin-It button to your blog. Pin all your blog posts as well as your freebies and services you offer. Use a tool to schedule your pins. For example, Tailwind helps you schedule pins months in advance. This is another great time saver.

As well as schedule pinning Michelle from Time and Pence recommends manual pinning. Just 10 minutes a day will optimise your Pinterest profile and help get more views to your blog.
5. SUCCESSFUL BLOGGERS INCLUDE INTERNAL LINKS IN BLOG POSTS
Internal linking is a simple concept. You include links in your blog post to another page within your blog. Internal linking is up to you so put as many as you want in. I often aim for at least 4 in each blog post. Internal linking is important not only for showing your readers what other content you have but also it is great for SEO.
So not only do internal links help your readers they also give your link authority a boost too and help rank you higher in search results. It really is a great way of increasing SEO but not many bloggers know that!
6. SUCCESSFUL BLOGGERS STAY IN TOUCH
There are several things that successful bloggers do that may seem counter intuitive to new bloggers. Firstly successful bloggers often share other people’s work. Especially work that compliments theirs. It’s a great way to enhance your own content but also they will return the favour. Getting your work to new audiences is extremely benefifical.
Secondly, successful bloggers interact and build communities for like minded bloggers as highlighted by Jayne from Mums The Word. These successful bloggers are always focused on looking beyond their own blog and building a sense of community for bloggers and readers and as Or Goren from Cord Busters suggests joining communities of bloggers on Facebook or other groups to discuss ideas and issues is a great way of building community but also keeping you grounded and not feeling isolated being stuck behind a screen all day!
7. SUCCESSFUL BLOGGERS UPDATE OLD POSTS
Sara from Debt Camel updates old posts. This is a great idea as it allows you to reschedule old posts with just a little bit of additional work. It also allows you to create new pins and share on Pinterest again. It’s a great way to fill in any content if you don’t have a lot of time. It also means you plan in advance without worrying too much about getting up a post on a particular day.
8. SUCCESSFUL BLOGGERS UPSKILL
Successful bloggers upskill. They know when they need additional knowledge or skills to take their blog to the next level. There are so many fantastic courses out there that help bloggers become better at what they do. I’ve listed a few below that I highly recommend:
9. SUCCESSFUL BLOGGERS COLLABORATE & HELP EACH OTHER
Katy from KatyKicker highly recommends collaborating with other bloggers, including working with them, sharing work and sharing fees to help bloggers understand their value. I absolutely love this tip and have to say the blogging community is one of the most wonderful groups to be part of.
10. SUCCESSFUL BLOGGERS HELP THEIR READERS
Not only do successful bloggers interact with their readers but they also solve problems for them. For example, depending on what they blog about they could help them make money or they could help them decide on whether to buy the latest tech product. Successful bloggers are focused on their readership and developing posts that they know their readership will appreciate.
I am astonded at how supportive the blogging community can be but above all else, I’m astonished at the never give up attitude of so many wonderful bloggers. I know blogging full time cannot be easy but the wonderful bloggers have done it and I believe that when we all work hard and work collaboratively and support each other, all of our dreams will come true!
Here’s to your successful blogging journey.
