Cars can be an expensive purchase to make, I know from experience. We decided long ago as a family to try our best to make do with 1 family car so we needed to make sure it was the best, most reliable and cost effective one out there. Below I have listed 5 tips to consider when choosing your next car that I hope will help you.
DO YOUR HOMEWORK
I can’t enphasis this enough. Do your homework and research as much as you can before making a decision. Our first family car purchase was when the boys were little, so we needed room to carry pushchairs and bags. As the boys have grown older, we have needed less boot space and more leg room space! The next step was considering our budget, it had to be a car we could afford as we wanted to pay cash. Cars.com is a great site to head to if you want to research all these options and find that is right for you and your family.
SET A BUDGET AND STICK TO IT
Think about the other expenses you have and what savings are in the bank. Can you afford to pay for the car in cash or do you need to get a loan? You need to set a budget based on your income and outgoings and stick to it.
Ensure that you test drive the car and check it all around. When you do your research, make sure you know what faults some cars may have and check this out. If the car doesn’t feel right to drive, walk away!
PREPARE TO NEGOTIATE
Don’t settle on the first price offered no matter how much you want the car. Be prepared to negotiate and again stick to your budget.
NEW VERSUS USED CARS
If you really want a specific car, consider getting it used. Or if you want that new one and it doesn’t fall within your budget, consider going for a cheaper model. Don’t rule anything out and be prepared to compromise.
