Whether you’re planning a family holiday, a wedding, or just have your eye on a nice pair of shoes, you are going to need some cash. Unfortunately, if you’re living month to month like a lot of people are, saving up for your dream can often feel like just that; A dream. Luckily, there are lots of things that you can do to fix your finances and start saving the money that you need for the fun things. Here are six great ideas to get your savings mission started.

save some cash

  1. Make Savings Automatic

You may have some money spare and just not realise it because you spend it on non-essentials as soon as it hits your bank account. To avoid this, you could start using an app, which will monitor your spending habits, work out how much you can afford to save, and put that into a savings account before you have the chance to spend it.

  1. Reduce Monthly Expenses

If you’re spending all of your money on your monthly expenses, try to cut down on some of these expenses to free up some cash. This might seem like an impossible task, but there is actually lots that you can do.  For example, you could also consider getting a car from a company like Intelligent Car Leasing, rather than buying one, which is generally cheaper each month. You could also try haggling with companies to get your regular bills reduced.

  1. Use Cashback Websites

If you like to shop online, then make sure that you use a cashback website every time you buy something. With some of these websites, you can earn up to and sometimes over 15% of what you have spent back, which is going to add up pretty quickly. Of course, you won’t earn thousands a year, but a few hundred is an achievable goal and can go a long way.

  1. Avoid Auto-Renewing

When it comes to insurance, you need to stop auto-renewing. Your deal may have been great the first year, but after this year, premiums generally go up, meaning that you will have to pay more. Make sure you check out a few different companies on a price comparison site before settling for one, as the cost can massively differ, even for very similar deals.

  1. Check Your Direct Debits

Make sure that you read your bank statements every month so that you can spot which direct debits are going out of your account. If you don’t, you could end up paying for something that you no longer need or use for months or even years. If there is anything you don’t want anymore, cancel it right away to avoid costing yourself any more money.

  1. Apply For Loyalty Cards

If you spend money at a particular store, restaurant, or supermarket regularly, check to see if they have any sort of loyalty scheme. If they do, you could earn points which can then be exchanged for money off your purchase. Often, stores with these schemes offer exclusive discounts and deals to their loyal customers too, so it really is worth it.

Saving money is never as fun as spending it, but, hopefully, with the tips and advice above, it should be just as easy.
