Having clear and glowing skin is the result of proper and diligent care, and caring for your skin is the first thing that you should do when you wake up in the morning. Establishing a morning skincare routine is a great way to ensure that your skin is protected from the elements. Moreover, having great beauty habits can help to make your skin look fabulous the whole day. While your morning routine may not be as extensive as your evening skincare regime, proper cleansing and the right beauty products can protect your skin from harmful pollutants, UV rays, and damage. Here are a few ways to upgrade your morning skincare routine this year.

The 8-step Korean morning skincare routine

Following the Korean way of caring for skin can make your skin healthy and younger-looking. First, wash your face with water only, then pour a bit of toner on your hands and pat the liquid onto your skin. Smooth on an essence, let it absorb for a few minutes, then follow with an ampoule, serum, eye cream, moisturiser, and sunscreen. If you don’t have the time to do all 8 steps, consider paring it down to 4 steps—cleanse with water, pat on toner, moisturise, and protect with sunscreen. The result: a glowing and youthful-looking complexion that looks radiant even without makeup.

Don’t neglect your body

Don’t just spoil your face – your body needs some TLC too. Take a short shower to avoid depleting your skin of moisture and use a moisturising body wash to clean your skin. Lock in your hydration by applying body oil or body lotion right after your shower. If you’ll be outdoors the whole day, you may want to apply sunblock to your limbs, the back of your neck, and other exposed areas of your body and wear protective clothing to shield your skin from harmful UV rays.

Master a 5-minute makeup routine

A 5-minute makeup routine allows you to use fewer products to let your skin breathe and still look polished while you go about your daily tasks. Start with BB cream to even out your skin tone and softly blur imperfections, then use a bit of concealer on areas where you need more coverage. Set with pressed powder. Use a brow mascara to darken and keep your brows in place, then finish the look with a bit of cream blush on the cheeks and a swipe of lip gloss. If you want a more “done” face for a meeting or for an evening out with friends, simply add eyeliner and mascara and apply your favourite matte lipstick.

This year, give your skin some TLC first thing in the morning. You’ll be glad you did once you see how much healthier, radiant, and beautiful your skin looks from head to toe.

As a mummy I am finding it extremely it difficult to get rid of my little tummy after two C-section births!  No matter how many sit ups I do, it doesn’t seem to help.  So, I have decided to look in to CoolSculping.  Below I’ve listed 5 things you need to know about Coolsculping in case you are considering it too!

What Is CoolSculpting?

According to Pulse Light Clinic CoolSculpting is a noninvasive body sculpting treatment.  This is done by fat-freezing using a process called Cryolipolysis.  There is no need for surgery or needles.  The treatment has also been approved by the FDA.

What Does the Treatment Consist of?

At the Pulse Light Clinic you receive a free consultation where you will be able to discuss the areas you wish to see an improvement.  A Coolsculpting device is attached to the area of unwanted fat.  It then targets the area of fat cells freezing them which causes them to die.  The process can take up to an hour so it can be done in your lunch break – there is absolutely no down time at all – unlike other treatments.

What areas can you use CoolSculpting for & how long does it last?

CoolSculpting is an approved treatment of fat for bulges in the thighs, under the chin, on the belly, back, love handles and your bum.  On average you will experience a 20% reduction in fat per treatment.  It will take a few treatments for the best results and the final stage of the results will be visible within 2 or 3 months when your body will have flushed away all the dead fat cells that were frozen.  Indeed, the results are permanent if you keep up a healthy lifestyle.  So this is indeed a great way of kick starting a new healthy lifestyle.

Are there any risks associated with CoolSculpting?

There are no risks associated with CoolSculpting but there are some things you should be aware of.  There will be some redness around the areas of the treatment and some tenderness or tingling where the fat has been frozen.  These usually last around 10 to 15 minutes.

How to find out more information

This helpful video from Pulse Light Clinic London answers all your questions.  Have a wee look to find out more.  Alternatively you can book a free appointment with Pulse Light Clinic here.

Are you considering CoolSculping?  I’d love to know what you think.

Periods or should I say tampons have been in the news a lot recently.  The campaign to abolish what has become known as the ‘Tampon Tax’ has hit the headlines around the world. Companies are beginning to reduce the price of their sanitary products as these items are now seen as a necessity and not a luxury.

This news is to be welcomed. What is also welcoming is that we are talking about periods. There are some topics that still seem to be ‘taboo’. For the life of me I can’t see why periods would be one of them. After all it is an integral part of growing up and something that all young girls go through.

Our bodies go through all kinds of changes during the monthly period cycle so it is wonderful to see start-up companies developing subscription boxes to help you during your period. A number of these boxes go beyond providing sanitary products, with some moving in to the territory of self-care providing calming tea, chocolate, and beauty products.

Whether you are a mother wanting to help your daughter with her first period or you need some extra TLC during your period, there is something for everyone. You can purchase a box as a one-off or you can commit to
subscribing. The choice really is yours. Below are four subscription boxes which we have tested.

1. Pink Parcel: £12.99 plus free delivery

Pink Parcel not just provides you with your monthly pads or tampons but they also aim to promote your health and well-being by providing products such as tea, chocolate, and beauty products. Each subscription box is beautifully packaged with smaller individual boxes such as the ‘For You’ box containing all the treats, ‘For Later’ box with a selection of tampons and ‘For Night’ with a selection of pads. The September box contained a selection of Belgian chocolates, peach and rhubarb tea, feminine intimate wash, nail polish, lip pencil, make-up brush and a
conditioning foot mask.

2. bettybox: £12.99 plus free delivery

The bettybox is ideal for younger girls. You can specially tailor the box to meet your monthly period needs. The box contained sweet treats in the ‘for you’ box with the addition of items such as lip balm, a hair mask, nail polish, a unicorn notepad and highlighter. I must say the box is extremely cute and would be ideal for teenagers. You can also design your own box and set a date as to when you need it to arrive. While the main part is the Betty Box, their website is an excellent resource of information for any questions relating to periods.

3. Monthlies: £4 for 7 items to £7 for 30 items

Monthlies aim to make periods ‘drama-free’ by providing pads and tampons which are organic and eco-friendly. You can build your own box by deciding on whether you prefer pads or tampons and how many you require. The selection of pads and tampons was impressive. A free cotton bag was also included in the box which is great for keeping your sanitary products together in your handbag. There’s nothing worse that pulling something out of your bag only to have your sanitary items fall on the floor!

4. Yoppie, Your Happy Period: £5.90 per month

Yoppie aims to not only provide you with 100% organic cotton tampons but for every month you subscribe they will give a month’s supply of sanitary products, underwear and invest in reproductive health education to girls in need. Yoppie hopes that every girl who uses their products will feel empowered and empower others. The box is discreet and fits easily in your bag. There were a selection of tampons ranging from mini to super. Each month you can select the type of tampon you use, decide on the frequency of the delivery – every month or two, finally you choose a date for delivery.

My Verdict: Period Subscription Boxes

While all the boxes are a great idea, the Pink Parcel and Betty boxes went beyond providing sanitary products which I believe would make them a real treat for yourself or to give as a gift, so they get my vote. However, I must give a special mention to Monthlies and Yoppie for their dedication to organic products and philanthropy.

I've reviewed these wonderful period subscription boxes that you will most certainly want to know about to help you or your daughter on your monthly period.

Oh my goodness Epsom Salts is just marvellous!  Why on earth am I only discovering the different uses for it until now?

I had cause to try and find a homemade cure for a foot infection recently and came across Epsom Salts.  In fact when I did a bit more research I found there are many things you can do with it.  I’ve listed below some of the many uses some of which I am doing now.  What also makes Epsom Salts so great is the cost – you can get a large bucket full for less than £10!

Bath Soak:  put a cup of Epsom Salts in your bath water to relieve aches and pains but also to soften your skin.

Hard Skin:  bath your feet in a basin of warm water and cup of Epsom Salts to keep your feet injection free and soften hard skin.

Face Scrub:  a pinch of Epsom Salts and warm water, mix together and hey presto an instant face scrub.

Plants:  you can add a teaspoon of Epsom Salts to your water when re-hydrating your plants – it helps them to grow.

Insect bites/Itchy skin:  add a teaspoon to water – about a cup then let it cool.  Spray it on your skin – I haven’t tried this  yet but it should stop the itchiness.

I’ve used Epsom Salts for most of the above (apart from the insect bites).  I’d love to know if you have used it and what you thought?  Are there any other uses for it?
