Hello Autumn, Hello Woollie Jumpers, Hello Slipper Socks!

So today, 22nd September 2016 is the Autumn Equinox.  This is the official start of autumn when the sun passes directly over the Earth’s equator and creates a day and night that are the same length.

With autumn come the longer nights and shorter days that will eventually lead us in to winter time.  I personally love autumn, I love the colours that mother nature gives us as leaves turn brown and fall from the trees.  There is something so pretty and magical seeing leaves assembling on the ground and walking through them – this is fun at any age!

The air is so crisp and refreshing that I get an intense feeling of wanting to be snug.  So out comes those woolly jumpers, scarves, gloves and slipper socks – perfect!

To celebrate the Autumn Equinox I have pulled together my favourite vintage autumn jewellery finds to share with you.  Let me know what you think.  All items are now in my Etsy shop here.  So if you would like some autumn inspired vintage jewellery that is unique head on over.

Happy autumn.

What do you do with beads from a broken vintage necklace – make earrings of course!

If you have any beads lying around from a broken vintage necklace, don’t throw them away.  You can always repurpose or reuse them in many ways.  I decided to make several sets of earrings with mine.  I think you will agree they turned out really well.

These stunning one of a kind handmade re-purposed vintage pair of earrings made from a 1960’s bead necklace.

So why buy vintage?
For me vintage means quality, it means it was made with care and attention that mass produced cannot match.

For me it means history. Whatever the item it has been pre loved, it has been pre cherished. It is a key to the past with every item having it’s own history and every vintage item particularly the older pieces have a beautiful romanticism about them, quite often we won’t know the history of each item, but it is easy to be swept away to past times .

For me it means individualism. Most items are one offs or limited finds. There are so many different styles and beautiful flourishes to vintage items that our modern mass produced items just cannot come close.

You can do so much with vintage beads, especially if you have a lot of broken vintage jewellery lying about.  For this project I decided to keep it simple and add vintage beads to an already stunning gold coloured necklace.  This is a stunning one of a kind handmade re-purposed vintage beads added to a stunning modern day necklace. The necklace measures 20 inches the drop is an additional 2 inches.
